HappyBaby Review and Giveaway **CLOSED**

HAPPYBELLIES Oganic Baby Cereals, DHA + Probiotic, Organic Multigrain Cereal, 7-Ounce Canisters (Pack of 6)When I first became a mother I had the noblest of intentions. I planned on buying organic vegetables and steaming and pureeing all of his meals from the comfort of my kitchen. I think I underestimated just how much of my day would be consumed with simply meeting his basic needs. Needless to say, my dreams of becoming the Julia Child of baby food failed to materialize. That is why I am so thankful that companies like HappyBaby have created healthy, organic food for the little ones in our lives.
HappyBaby foods are prepared with the highest of standards.

Happy Family Happy Baby - Stage 1: Yes Peas and Thank You Carrots, 12-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)They also offer something I had never seen before: frozen meals. Their frozen meals contain 12 cubes (similar to what you would have if you made your own baby food and stored it in cubes in the freezer). All you have to do is pop out the amount that you need, heat it in your child's dish, and enjoy. Plus they have super cute names. My favorite is "Yes Peas + Thank You Carrots." I was impressed that they even offer Salmon!

They also offer: HappyMelts, freeze-dried yogurt that helps with digestive health; HappyBites, which are handheld little nuggets of nutritional goodness (for toddlers and young children); HappyBellys, organic cereal with DHA and probiotics; there are even more products available!

What I LOVE about HappyBaby
HAPPYBABY Organic Puffs, Greens Puffs, 2.1-Ounce Containers (Pack of 6)
  • Their organic puffs have half the sugar of other puffs and contain no artificial ingredients.
    • My son is addicted to these. It's so good to know this is a healthier option.
  • Their probiotic dry cereals also contain DHA which is essential for brain and eye development.
  • Their ingredients contain NO pesticides, NO chemical fertilizers, NO genetic modification, and NO preservatives.
  • There packaging is clearly labeled which is helpful for parents of children with allergies.
You can find HappyBaby at Whole Foods, Babies R Us, Super Target stores and even on Amazon.

I really think you will like these. I was very impressed. Their website is a wonderful resource for information on nutrition. They have even partnered with renowned pediatrician Dr. Sears to help ensure that their products are nutritionally sound and meet the needs of growing infants and toddlers.

And the thing that takes the cake for me is that a portion of every purchase helps starving children in Malawi through Project Peanut Butter. If I can feed my family great nutritious food AND help out children in need, then I am all in favor of that!

The generous folks at HappyBaby have offered one of my readers the opportunity to try HappyBaby in your own home!

You have the chance to win the following from HappyBaby and their partner YoBaby:

Bad Dreams Go Away Spray: Review and Giveaway **CLOSED**

As parents, we seek to protect our children from dangers in the world around them, but sometimes we aren't sure how to offer them peace of mind from unseen things like monsters in the closet or frightening dreams.

Brooke, a mother of three, found a solution to her child's nightmare problem through the creation of "Bad Dreams Go Away Spray" and Activity Kit.

Each parent/child activity kit includes:
  • Full color children's story booklet
  • Bad Dreams Go Away spray bottle and recipes to create your own custom spray.
  • Cute little "Make your own Monster" stickers

The story booklet features bright colors and cute illustrations. It would be a great part of a nighttime routine children suffering from bad dreams or fear of hidden monsters.

The back of the booklet lists the "Secret Recipe Ingredients" to create a spray personalized for your own child.

The recipe calls for food coloring to add color to the spray. Be very cautious before spraying on light colored linens due to the risk of staining. If you are concerned about this you can either omit the food coloring and have a clear scented spray, or you can make sure to dilute the spray so that the color is not so intense. This shouldn't be a problem at all if you simply spray it in the air.

The kit does not come with the food coloring or food flavoring, but most of us moms have loads of miscellaneous food coloring left over from Easter eggs or various baking/crafting projects. You can always use what you have on hand.

Here's some information on Brooke, the author and creator of "Bad Dreams Go Away Spray."

Author and illustrator, Brooke Erwin, is a proud mom of three brilliant and very funny children.  Two of her three children have a condition called Charcot-Marie-Tooth, which is the most common form of hereditary neuropothy and is a condition found in the Muscular Dystrophy family.  She and her husband run a successful home automation company in the Atlanta area.  She has spent most of the last 15 years at home raising her babies.  She has also worked as a child care director and coordinator for GA Pre-K, which gave her even more memorable experiences with young children.

During the infant, toddler and pre-school phases of parenthood, she learned she was going to have to be more inventive and devise some new, more child friendly ways to get things done around her home.  Thus, Bad Dreams Go Away Spray was born.  She is also a part-time student working toward her legal mediation degree.  She has always loved to doodle and draw and enjoys anything fun and creative like gardening, scrapbooking and card making when she is not spending time with her family.  Currently, Brooke is working on her second Children's Book which is due out sometime next fall.  All of her story ideas have come from her experiences in the classroom, rearing her own children or from stories friends have shared along the way.

Although my little one is still to small to use this spray, I think this is a great idea. I plan on holding onto it for the future. There are plans to release a hardcover version of the book in the near future! I'm glad someone put together a kit to help kids and their parents deal with their nighttime anxiety. To an adult, it may just seem like a spray bottle, but to a little child, it may give them the confidence to face their fears and sleep in peace.

You have an opportunity to win a "Bad Dreams Go Away Spray" kit ($14.99) for your very own!

Munchie Mug Review and Giveaway ** CLOSED**

My little one loves snacking on puffs. I usually find them all over my carpet, kitchen floor. and car seat. The inventor of Munchie Mug has created a product to help solve this problem. You may have seen other snack trap devices in the past, so what makes the Munchie Mug different?

  • Munchie Mug features a fabric "trap" that keeps the snacks inside the 16 oz cup (the cup holds 10 oz).
    • The fabric is soft and comfortable, yet effectively keeps snacks inside the cup.
  • It is 100% made in the USA.
  • Phthalate and BPA free
  • It comes with a screw top to keep food fresh when not in use.
My little one is not quite old enough to use the mug yet. It's recommended for children over ten months, but I tried it out several times myself and was pleased with the results. I felt that it was very easy to retrieve snacks from the cup and it withstood my "try-to-shake-stuff-out-of-it" test.

I look forward to my little one using it in the next few months. He likes the bright colors and images on the outside cover.

FYI:
The Munchie Mug is easy to care for. It is dishwasher safe on the top rack. You only need to blot the fabric top with a paper towel after removing it from the dishwasher. The images on the outside of the cup may fade with repeated use, just like a number of other decorated cups.

The wonderful folks at Munchie Mug have generously offered a reader a Munchie Mug of their choice. They come in three great colors.

Here's how to enter:
Mandatory Entry:
Visit Munchie Mug and tell me what color Mug you would pick. (This must be done in order for any extra entries to count)

All I want for Mother's Day is an iPad . . . Ok, I'm dreaming

I’m participating in a contest at Best Kids Apps, a blog about iPhone apps for kids, for a chance to win an iPad.

I've seen iPads all over the internet and television, but for now, their price tag keeps them out of reach. I love the idea of having hundred of apps at my fingertips, especially apps that will help entertain my son! It took me about five years to jump on the iPod bandwaggon, and I absolutely love it. Maybe in about five years the price will go down on iPad as well (of course by then there will probably be futuristic hologram pads or something snazzy like that).

Do you have an iPad or iPhone? What is your favorite app or feature?

    Blogger 2 Blogger: HELP!

**UPDATE** I finally got my comments numbered! Woo hoo.!
So, I've recently switched to this new layout (which I love). Unfortunately in the process, I lost the ability to number my comments. I'm looking for your expertise. I had edited the code in my previous layout to allow for numbered comments, but for some reason those hacks aren't working for this design. Is there anyone out there who can help me??

I would totally appreciate any tips you can offer!

Used Book Heaven - MKZBooks.com Review

I've already admitted I'm a tea junkie. I might as well admit that I'm a book addict as well. I just wanted to tell you about a super cool site I just learned about, McKenzie Books. Here's how they describe their used book alert program called BRAIN:

    About us:
We are an online used book buyer and seller (we sell some new). What BRAIN does is it allows you to create a "want list" of sorts that automatically notifies you the minute we get a book in matching your title, author, ISBN, or keyword search. You can set preferences such as the minimum book condition, how often and when to get alerted, maximum number of books to include in each alert and more.

It's a super easy tool to use and it saves you from hunting all around for that book you want. And since we regularly sell our used books up to 80% off list price, you know you'll be getting a deal. This service is great for everyone trying to watch their money, especially for students trying to get their textbooks for cheap.

If you're a budget minded person like I am, I'm sure you've discovered the wonders of used books. Trust me, no one is going to read a book so much that the words rub off. Used is just as good as new in my book!

I have been scouring the web and used book stores for a copy of  "A Birthday for Cow" for my little one. (If you  haven't read it, it's hilarious!). With BRAIN, all I have to do is enter the title and kick back and let them do the leg work. The moment I get an e-mail saying they have one in stock, all I have to do is add it to my cart and check out. They even offer free shipping for orders over $25. You can't beat that.

It was super easy to create an account and activate BRAIN. You can search for a specific title or even a favorite author - and to make things even better, their prices are VERY reasonable. I hope you enjoy using it as much as I have!

I just thought I'd let you know about the program in case you too are on the hunt for bargains and books!

    Happy Reading,

    Photobucket

MKZBooks.com provided me a $25 gift card to facilitate my review of their program.

Golden Moon Tea Review and Giveaway **CONTEST CLOSED**

    **CONTEST CLOSED**
    Congratulations to #73: Debbie!

I'm not quite sure when my love affair with tea began. All I know now is that it has become a full blown addiction. I have a whole cabinet devoted to my beverage of choice, so you can imagine how excited I was when I had the opportunity to review a tin of Tippy Earl Grey Tea from Golden Moon Teas.

Golden Moon Tea sells a wide variety of delicious tea and beautiful tea ware. Although they specialize in loose leaf tea (which is my preference) they also carry an assortment of bagged teas. My favorite feature of their site is the ability to purchase a sample size (most are around .99). Many times I'm hesitant to purchase a tea I've never tried before. This way, you can try the tea before you commit to buying a whole tin.

I was very pleased with the tea. The Tippy Earl Grey is wonderfully aromatic and has a great flavor. Brewing is simple.
    • You simply place a small spoonful of tea leaves either directly into your tea pot or into a brew basket. I love to use a T-sac if I'm just brewing a cup for myself.
    • Pour hot water over the tea and allow it to steep for a few minutes.
    • Remove/strain the tea leaves and enjoy!
You have the opportunity to win a tin of Earl Grey tea!

    Mandatory Entry:
Visit Golden Moon Tea and tell me which tea you would love to try.

    Extra Entries:
    • "Like" Golden Moon Tea on Facebook. (1 entry)
    • Follow me on Google, Twitter, or Facebook. (1 entry each)
    • Subscribe by e-mail or RSS feed (2 entries)

Open to US, 18+ Giveaway ends  5/10 at 11:59 PM (Mountain time). Make sure to leave your e-mail in your comment or have your e-mail address visible in your profile. You can't win if I can't contact you! :-) The winner will be selected through Random.org. Winner has 48 hours to respond to winning e-mail or another winner will be selected.

So Long Insecurity Simulcast - Commissioning Statement,

Last week I told you about a Beth Moore simulcast "So Long Insecurity" that was taking place at locations across the United States and Canada. I just got back from this incredible time of worship and Bible study (alongside 300,000 other women participating at over 800 sites) and wanted to share with you our closing commissioning statement.

    My Dear Sister
    If Christ is Your Savior
    You are the dwelling place
    Of His own Spirit
    You have it IN YOU
    to be secure.

    Every day of your life
You have a choice to make
You can live in your old defeat
Or you can turn from your unbelief
    And choose life

    Make up your mind
To put off the old you
And put on the new you.

    Never, ever, ever forget
That the Lord is your security.
    He will keep your foot
From being caught in a trap.
He will take care of you
    To your very last breath.

    Now, leave this place
And go out into the world
    And act like a person
    Who knows she’s dearly loved.

You were born to be exceptional.
    So, Girlfriend, go forth
And walk worthy of your calling.
You are clothed in strength and dignity!

    Now unto Him
Who can keep you from falling
    Be glory and majesty
    Power and authority
    Through Jesus Christ our Lord
    Now and forever more
    Amen.
    So Long, Insecurity!

Thanks to Living Proof for sharing this on their blog. I definitely want to tell you all about what I learned today, but my eyelids are heavier than a herd of elephants. So I thought I would give you just a sample of we covered.

Just in case no one ever told you . . . you are loved incredibly. You were made for a purpose. God can do incredible things in the life of ANYONE who trusts Him . . .even free us from the trap of insecurity.

L'Bri Skincare Review and Giveaway * CONTEST CLOSED

    **CONTEST CLOSED
Let's be honest here. Most days, I'm so busy that I barely remember to brush my teeth, let alone wash, tone, and moisturize my skin. So I was thrilled when I was asked to review L'Bri's Skin Care Essentials Trio.

L'Bri's skincare products are totally natural and have aloe as the first ingredient. I have never had the opportunity to try an aloe based skincare product so I was not totally sure what to expect. The Skin Care Essentials Trio is a three step skin care regimen designed to improve the health and beauty of your skin. Unlike regular soap based face washes which can leave residue on your skin, L'Bri products are designed to cleanse your skin without leaving a film behind. Here's what's included in the trio:

Step 1: Cleanser: Unlike facial cleansers I've used in the past, this lotion cleanser does not produce suds. You simply apply the lotion to your dry face, working into the skin with your fingers. You then rinse your face with water.

Step 2: Freshener:  Squirt freshener on a cotton ball or pad and apply to skin. This step moisturizes and restores your skin's pH balance to a proper level. A proper pH level ensures that your skin is protected from bacteria and irritation.

Step 3: Moisturizer: Apply a dime sized amount of moisturizer to your face and neck. Rub into your skin in an upward and outward motion. Dampen your fingers and continue working the moisturizer into the skin.

Here's what I discovered after using the product for ten days.

    PROS:
    • My skin felt incredibly soft and moisturized. This is saying something since my skin is horrendously dry, especially after washing my face. I didn't even need to apply additional moisturizer in the morning like I usually do.
    • My skin looked healthy.
    • It has a pleasant fragrance.
    • It is pure and natural and did not irritate my skin at all.
    • It is safe to use around the eye area.
    CONS:
    • It is a bit more expensive than my regular "Wal-Mart special" face wash, BUT you definitely get what you pay for. This is a much higher quality product and is much better for my skin.
    • I did have a few blemishes when I first started using the product, but they said this is to be expected since the cleanser is removing embedded impurities from the skin. This only lasts a couple days and then the complexion clears. I do have to admit that even in spite of a few small blemishes my skin looked much clearer and had a  healthy glow to it.
I was very pleased with the results. I went from forgetting to washing my face to looking forward to washing my face at the end of the day. I really liked the way it made my skin look and feel. L'Bri offers a wide variety of skin care products including a pure and natural  make-up line.

Debbie, a consultant for L'Bri, has generously offered one of my readers the opportunity to try a ten day supply of Skin Care Essentials for free! This is the perfect size to stow in a travel bag or purse! I know you'll enjoy using it.

    Here's how to win:
    Mandatory Entry:

I received a complimentary sample of the product to facilitate the review. All opinions expressed are my own.

A serious case of the "don't wannas"

It has been one of those weeks. You know the kind. I had seven loads of laundry to do, dishes piled high in the sink, and half-melted puffs stuck to the floor next to my son's highchair.

Sometimes I look at all there is to do and just want to flop onto the floor and surrender. Why? Not because the task is oh so difficult, but because I know in less than 24 hours it will all need to be done again.

I guess it's a fact of life. It's the mundane that keeps the world on track. I would be in a mess of trouble if the garbage man didn't want to do his job or if the plumber decided he "just didn't feel like it" today. Sometimes it's tough as a stay at home mom because you never really have time off, vacation days, or sick days (I know working moms have the same trouble too). Sometimes I think it would be nice to get out of the house for a bit so that I wouldn't be constantly reminded about all there is to do (or feel guilty for not doing it).

I need to get over what I call the "June Cleaver Complex." I'm never going to be super-wife, because honestly, I find no joy in scrubbing toilets and washing sheets. In my house, we live in survival mode: There are just enough clean clothes to wear and the dishes are finally washed and put away just about the time that the cabinet is bare. I would love to have an immaculate home and to cook gourmet meals for my family at the end of the day. The problem is that I often lack motivation.

I try to think of my role as "Stay at Home Mom" as an actual job. Sure, there is no pay, no vacation time, or mandatory fifteen minute break (although if someone could find a way to implement that I would be your fan forever), but it is just as important as a job outside the home, if not more so. How does that play out into real life? For me that means that I need to do my best in everything I do just like I would do if I was trying to impress an employer in the hopes of a promotion.

I'm reminded of Colossians 3:17 that says "Whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

A monk named Bro. Lawrence wrote a book centuries ago called "The Practice of the Presence of God." He talks about how washing dishes in the monastery could become an act of worship. It's all about your attitude. That's something I'm learning every day, and something I seriously need to work on.

      Sketchers Shape-Ups Review

It's too bad taking off weight isn't as easy as putting it on. I've still got a few pounds of persistent baby weight that just doesn't want to go away. So . . . I saved my pennies and used my coupons to buy myself a pair of Sketchers Shape-ups.

I had seen them advertised all over the place and wondered just how effective they were. After using them for a month here is my verdict:

They're not too bad. Now if you're looking for a pair of miracle shoes that will give you the rear end of a super model just by walking around the corner, you might be disappointed. But, if you are looking for a little boost to your exercise routine you might enjoy these shoes. My legs never felt sore after a walk like some have claimed, but I could feel a definite difference compared to my normal walking shoes. I have noticed a small bit of definition in my cankle (maybe one day I'll actually have a separate calf and ankle!).

I try to wear them when going on a stroll with B or when doing the grocery shopping. My policy: Every little bit helps. If you can find a good deal on them, try them out yourself. You can even try them on in the store and walk around a few aisles to see if you notice a difference (I did this several times before finally deciding to go ahead and buy some for myself).

If you have any questions about the shoes or my experience with them feel free to let me know. I'm no expert, but I'd be glad to let you know what I think!

      Happy walking!

      So Long Insecurity Simulcast

I just finished reading Beth Moore's latest book So Long, Insecurity a few weeks ago. Let me tell you ladies, it was a much needed kick in the rear end. Thankfully, it was a kick in the right direction. Like so many of us, I have struggled with insecurity for most of my life. I actually felt insecure about buying a book about insecurity in front of my husband. The book isn't a quick "cure" for chronic insecurity, but it is a helpful tool to get you moving in the right direction.

I thought I would let you know about a simulcast that is taking place next Saturday, April 24th at locations all across the United States and Canada. If you're not familiar with Beth Moore, she's a Bible Study author and teacher based out of Houston, TX. She is a hoot - just cracks me up. But even more important than that, she is a gifted teacher who takes God's Word seriously and has a passion for reaching women with the love of Christ.

My dear husband will be holding down the fort next weekend while I attend. I'm so excited. I just thought I'd let you know in case anyone else would be interested in attending. You don't have to read the book before you go. You don't have to be a member of a church or Bible study or anything. Check out her site for details on the conferences. I know some locations are offering the simulcast for free while others require you to get a ticket beforehand. Contact that location to find out the details.

You can find a simulcast location in your area here.

"What's in a Word" by Webb Garrison Review

I admit it. I'm a nerd. To be more specific: I'm a word nerd. That's why "What's in a Word" by Webb Garrison is right up my alley. Perhaps you're like me and have wondered how in the world the letter "X" came to represent a kiss when placed after a signature on a letter. Or maybe someone has warned you to stop "raising cane" because one day you'll have to "pay the piper."

Since reading this book I have assaulted my husband with my new word knowledge. He has been very patient with my continuous "did you know" questions the last few days. I think it's just fascinating.

This isn't the kind of book that you sit and read straight through (although you could if you were so inclined). The book is divided into several different sections (technology, science, religion, etc.). While the book is not a comprehensive study of etymology it is a fun collection of more than 350 words and phrases that we use everyday. There is a helpful index in the back if you're looking for a specific word or phrase.

I would totally recommend this book to any curious cat out there who would like to dazzle their friends and family with their new word knowledge :-)

      Happy Reading!

"Take it from the Top" Review

Take it from the Top (Adventures in Odyssey)
I have been a fan of Adventures in Odyssey for years. They have recently introduced their 51st album "Take it from the Top." This audio drama features five hours of entertaining stories featuring Adventures in Odyssey favorites such as Whit, Connie, Eugene, and Wooton. It also introduces listeners to two new families.

I am always impressed by the quality of AIO productions. I'm 25 and I think I enjoy them just as much as the kids do. My favorite thing about "Take it from the Top" is that it promotes positive family values. I think one of my favorites is "Clutter" from the first disc. It reminded me that I need to make sure that I'm not holding on to things I don't need (My closet is a living testimony to the need to de-clutter).

I would highly recommend "Take it from the Top" to families with children of all ages. It's a perfect companion for road trips or a background for family game night. You can find a copy for yourself at Tyndale's website, Amazon.com, and Christian Book Distributors.

      A message to our daughters:

      Dear precious child,

Has anyone told you how beautiful you are? It's not your hair, your face, your figure that makes you beautiful. You could spend your whole life trying to look perfect on the outside and it would never make you more beautiful than you are right now. I know you think you need others to tell you that you are "good enough, smart enough, pretty enough," but believe me when I tell you that there has never been another person made just like you. Your quirks, your "flaws," were all hand-picked to make you stand out above the crowd. You don't have to be just like everyone else. Your uniqueness is a treasure.

Don't believe the lie that sensuality equals beauty. Our culture would tell us that the way to get a man is to lure him with our body, a seductive smile, a flip of our hair. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but one day your body will be old, your smile will be encased by wrinkles and your hair will be flipping out in all the wrong directions. If you place all your security in your outward appearance one day you will find yourself lacking.

You don't have to be sexy to be beautiful. Desired does not equal loved. Just because a man wants to spend the night with you doesn't mean he wants to spend his life with you. It's a harsh truth, but someone needs to be honest.

I wish I could protect you from a society that says you should be a size two, from music that says that guys only like a girl that pleases them, from clothing that encourages you to put yourself on display.

You are beautiful because you were made that way by a Creator who loves you. Who formed you while you were in your mother's body. He knew what He was doing and He loves you more than you could ever know.

      Speaking of Parties . . . .

I have been having a blast getting to known a lot of bloggers participating in 5 Minutes For Mom's Ultimate Blog party!!

Speaking of parties, I have a quick favor to ask. My husband and I are excited to be going to a progressive dinner this Friday night (for those of you who don't know, a progressive dinner is a dinner party that is split up among different houses: for example, appetizers at one house, dinner at different house, dessert at yet another house). I think it's going to be a blast.

Here's where I need your help. . . I'm supposed to bring an appetizer and I am totally out of ideas. (I don't suppose the guests would appreciate my trademark chicken nuggets a la toothpicks)

What are your favorite party appetizers? Do you have a great recipe? Share the info below and I'll feature my favorite recipe here on my blog.
