"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" Healthy Eating Habits Giveaway!!

It's hard to believe that it's been forty years since Eric Carle first released The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I remember reading the book as a child, and have LOVED reading it with my own son. Now, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the American Academy of Pediatrics are joining together with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and We Give Books to help promote healthy eating habits in an effort to combat childhood obesity.

Starting this Spring, over 17,500 pediatrician's offices will be provided with special editions of the book that feature growth charts and healthy eating tips. The Alliance's mission is to help educate and promote healthy eating habits among growing children.

Teaching our children to make good food choices is an important part of our role as parents! Like the caterpillar we can learn that eating too much can lead to a pretty bad tummy ache, while eating the right sort of food can help us grow healthy and strong. This is such a fun book and a must-have for your child's library!

THREE lucky readers will have a chance to win their own copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

  1. I encourage healthy eating habits by making it fun, and a part of our every day menu! We've traded all white pastas out with wheat...so much healthier, and I can't tell a difference. We make "fruit faces" on pancakes. I offer veggies and fruit at every meal. I also do fruit smoothies when the fruit is going bad! It's hard to eat healthy, but I know that it is important, and even more important to teach Natalee how to eat! We also go and get a treat from the frozen yogurt place, instead of ice cream. It's just as sweet, but in the end better for you...as long as you stay away from all the yummy toppings! :)

  2. At home, in place of greasy chips, I give my son carrot sticks, and most of the time in place of cookies and such for dessert; he gets apples, bananas, or mandarin oranges. I hope that inputting these little changes now while he's 2--that he'll continue to make healthy choices as he gets older and makes the decision for himself. I've already noticed him choosing fruit over cookies, which is really exciting.

  6. I buy only snacks that are healthy. If the "junk food" is not easily available everyone eats a lot healthier!

  10. I love Jessica seinfelds cookbook deceptively delicious. Also I don't talk about the good stuff lol that may seem strange but I've found jjust putting it on my sons plate and calling it dinner leads to a higher probability of him at least trying it. When I call it a vegetable he remembers he's not supposed to like it lol

  11. I don't need the book. I have it. :) But I enjoyed using this as the theme for Jake's birthday. Did you see the pictures? It was fun! I poked holes in the food to make it look like the caterpillar had eaten through them. The kids who came loved it!

  16. I always put something they dont like on their plates. They have to try it, if they don't like it, they don't have to finish it. But I always make them try! :)

  17. Easy! I Don't give my son the option. If you start healthy eating habits at a young age, they don't know any different.

  18. I think the best thing I did was to start very early with my little one! She eats whole grains like bulgar, millet and quinoa every single day, because she has been raised on it!
