The Other Side of Down is the latest release from American Idol runner-up, David Archuleta. This album has an overwhelmingly positive message. I love that it's family-friendly with content that's safe for ears of all ages.
While it's nothing shockingly new or innovative, it has a great overall sound, catchy lyrics, and a varied set of songs. Archuleta showcases his vocal talent that fans of American Idol season eight grew to expect and anticipate. I definitely appreciated the wide range of songs. There is a good mix of upbeat pop songs and slower ballads.
My favorite has to be "Falling Stars," a soulful song of love lost. The song showcases Archuleta's vocal range. I also enjoyed the message of the song "Complain."
Cause I don’t always get everything I wanted
Doesn’t turn out just the way I thought it all should be
Baby, I can’t complain
No more wasting my time looking in the mirror
Wishing my life was a little bit clearer
No way - Baby, I can’t complain
If you're looking for something edgy, look elsewhere. It's not cutting edge, it's not Lady Gaga (thank goodness), but it is a highly enjoyable, optimistic offering from the teenage sensation.
You can check out the music video for "Something 'Bout Love."

I received a complimentary CD to facilitate my review. The opinions expressed are my honest thoughts of the product.
Hi - I don't need an entry in the contest because I already have the CD and the Deluxe iTunes and already gifted a CD to my niece! But I already like facebook and tweeted a link to your article. I love the album and I'm really looking forward to whenever David tours next! His concerts are suitable for all ages and all ages attend! I'm one of David's many adult fans and one fan brings 4 generations to David's concerts. I hope you can go to one some time.
ReplyDeleteI am also a fan of David's! I just wanted to thank you for a really nice review and tell you that if you are given the chance, you should most definately go to a David concert. He becomes a different guy on that stage. Confidence and class. Throw-in his vocal genius and you have a fantastic show!
ReplyDeleteI too am a die-hard David fan for life and echo others here to highly recommend his live shows. He gives his all, never sings a song the same twice, has not only one of the most beautiful voices ever and a spirit to match, but a musical-interpretation range like non-other in pop music these days. David immerses himself in the music and delivers 120% heart, soul and sound.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your positive review...but have to respectfully disagree with what has become a common descriptor of this cd as "not-groundbreaking" or "safe." To say it's not "Lady Gaga" is just irrelevent since that is just not who David is, and frankly not what anyone expects of him or his music. On the other hand he delivered exactly what he said he intended to...a cd that reflects his own musical tastes and positive outlook on life, and something that was authentic to who he was...in a package of some delightfully catchy, moving and commercial sounding tunes! ..Sung by a real singer's singer, who stays true to himself & his values, even when it's not "as cool" to do so, is actually quite daring and unusual these days.
Thanks for the positive review...don't miss his tour! :)

I absolutely do not watch American Idol. I believe they put a lot of those people on just to make fun of them and a lot of talent people get passed by.
